Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - The Education Ministry has decided to close schools on May 5 as notified in the Commissioner General of Elections' letter dated April 19, in view of the Local Government elections scheduled for May 6.
Accordingly, schools, colleges of education and higher technological institutions will be used as centres for the handover and retrieval of ballot boxes, equipment and related items to Senior Polling Officers, as well as for tabulating election results.
Accordingly, the schools to be used as polling stations should be handed over to the relevant Grama Niladharis on May 4, 2025, and schools are to resume from May 7, 2025.
A letter signed by the Ministry Secretary, Nalaka Kaluwewa, has also been issued to inform Zonal Education Directors and Principals to provide the necessary tables, chairs and hall facilities for polling station activities.
