State Minister Sanath Nishantha surrendered to Court soon after an arrest warrant was issued against him by Court of Appeal.
A lawyer appearing for the State Minister has filed a motion urging to revoke the warrant issued in the monitoring.
State Minister was not present in court when the contempt of court applications were taken up before Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and R. Gurusinghe.
President's Counsel Faiz Mustapha appearing for the State Minister submitted to court that his client did not receive summons in connection with the applications.
However, President's Counsel Romesh de Silva with Upul Jayasuriya PC and Saliya Pieris PC appearing for the petitioners moved Court to issue summons since summons have been dispatched on registered post.
Sanath Nishantha will face contempt of court charges over an alleged contemptuous statement he made recently targeting the judiciary.
The Court of Appeal had earlier issued summons on State Minister to appear in court personally to show cause as to why he should not be punished for contempt of Court.
The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka (JSASL), the organization representing all the District Court Judges and Magistrates in the country and two lawyers filed contempt of court applications seeking an order to punish State Minister Sanath Nishantha for the offence of Contempt of Court.
Meanwhile,the Court of Appeal decided to recall arrest warrant issued against State Minister Sanath Nishantha since he surrendered before Court in connection with three contempt of court cases.
The Court of Appeal severely warned the State Minister to be present in court every day as directed by court. The Court observed that it would compell to impose bail conditions if he failed to appear on time for the future hearings (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
