Colombo, March 11 (Daily Mirror) - Either Sajith Premadasa, during his tenure as the Housing Minister, or his secretary has misused funds allocated to construct a bridge across the Walawe Ganga in the Hambantota District, Government MP Upul Kithsirti alleged in Parliament today.
The MP said the allegation has actually been made by the people in the area.
Minister of Transport and Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake said the bridge is half constructed and has stopped in the middle of the river.
“There were many instances where funds have been allocated for bridges but not spent for the projects. Some have not got off the ground," the Minister said.
MP Kithsirii who actually raised an oral question on the issue wanted to raise a supplementary question but was told that he cannot raise questions from a former Minister.
Opposition Leader Sajith Sajith Premadasa who responded said the work on the bridge was stopped during the Presidential election of 2019 and that the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration had not continued the project.
“None of the projects started by the Yahapalana government were continued by its successors,” he said.
