Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday invited the SLFP to join UNP led alliance Samagi Jana Balawegaya which is led by him.
Mr. Premadasa who was speaking at a meeting of UNP activists in Colombo West and Colombo East said it is better for the SLFP to join the new alliance rather than getting trampled by other parties.
"We saw that those who represent the five pillars Sanga, Veda, Guru, Govi, Kamkaru (Buddhist clergy, Indigenous medical practitioners, teachers, farmers and labourers ) are trampled by the SLPP boot. Therefore, we invite these forces to join our alliance," Mr. Premadasa said.
"Our alliance is progressive and give prominence to indigenous values, nationalism but works for the betterment of people who belong to all ethnic and religious groups. We give prominence to modernism as well" he added. He said the opposition led by him is also progressive but does not get into political deals with anyone. "What we exhibited last week in Parliament is this quality," he said. "We never went against allocating funds for the development but only went against increasing the debt ceiling," he added.
He said the government has to be without funds because of its own fault. "Government would have had enough funds to use for development if it did not loose Rs.600 billion through tax cuts".(Yohan Perera)
