Colombo, March 3 (Daily Mirror) - Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today called for a two day debate on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

"It is appropriate to take up a debate on the situation," he told Parliament.

Also, he said the whole House should come together in condemning the attack on Iran by the US and Israel and the retaliation by Iran.

Remember, Iran is the global sponsor of terrorism. Jay I don't watch any mainstream TV news local or foreign. Or for that matter any news on TV. I watch mainly for entertainment Netflix, Prime Disney sports especially cricket on my TV since I have Satellite TV.Absolutely not watching any TV News whatsoever. Sajith made a stupidest statement condemning US-Israel attack on Iran quoting some UN conventions. Iran is a totalitarian regime and I believe the UN conventions were formulated without considering the Uranium Enrichment by any state. However, enrichment process allowed subjected to stick supervision by IAA inspectors. These Iranians never allowed in depth supervision and building a shield around Iran to secretly develop the war heads. Iranian has said in the earlier that they have inalienable right to develop and at the same time US has said they have inalienable right to destroy if carried out without supervision.

What the nation expects is not theatrical debate, but clear, responsible measures to safeguard the welfare and security of Sri Lankans caught in the turmoil. It is also worth recalling that the economic policies pursued during his father’s administration, together with those of J. R. Jayewardene, failed to meaningfully cultivate entrepreneurship among the rural population. Instead of fostering sustainable local industries and economic opportunity within the country, successive governments allowed a model to emerge in which thousands of Sri Lankans were compelled to seek employment in the Middle East during the 1970s and 1980s, often under harsh and exploitative conditions.
