Colombo, Feb. 4 (Daily Mirror) - The sacred Devnimori relics of Lord Buddha arrived in Sri Lanka a short while ago, marking a historic moment for Buddhists in the country.
The Indian aircraft carrying the revered relics landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at around 1.00 p.m. today.
Under the facilitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the support of the Government of India, the exposition of the sacred Devnimori relics will commence today at the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya, Colombo.
The exposition will begin under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
According to the President’s Media Division, the sacred Devnimori relics—discovered during archaeological excavations in the 1960s at the historic Devnimori site in Gujarat—have never previously been taken outside India. Following discussions between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s recent visit to Sri Lanka, this rare opportunity has been granted to the people of Sri Lanka to venerate the sacred relics.
The exposition of the sacred Devnimori relics will be held at the Gangaramaya Temple for seven days, from tomorrow (05) until February 11.
