Sabry expresses strong concern over predicted arrest of Ranil

Colombo, August 22 (Daily Mirror) - Former Foreign Minister Ali Sabry expressed strong concern over the predicted arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, labelling it as “deeply troubling” and indicative of a growing trend of vindictive politics in Sri Lanka.

In a Facebook post, Sabry said Wickremesinghe has played a decisive role in stabilising and resurrecting Sri Lanka on three critical occasions.
In 1993, following the assassination of President R. Premadasa, he ensured continuity of governance and prevented the country from descending into anarchy.
In 2000, when the nation faced its first recession, he restored growth and stability.
In 2022, at the height of the worst economic crisis in our history, he assumed leadership and steered Sri Lanka back from the brink of collapse.

“Against this backdrop, his arrest as predicted by a YouTuber is deeply troubling. Such actions reflect a disturbing trend of vindictive and destructive politics which undermines our institutions and our future. This cycle of hatred and retribution must end. Sri Lanka deserves a politics of reason, stability and gratitude to those who have time and again safeguarded the nation," he said.

Didn't need to be a YouTuber to predict RW's arrest. Anyone with a brain could have predicted this knowing the RW is not a Saint. Law applies to everyone, current and former Presidents down to all citizens... No one is above the law. Makes no difference who you are, or who you were. Great to see our Judicial system working without interference from the politicians from the corrupt past. This man is supposed to be a lawyer? So according to him if a person has done great services to the country they should be allowed to squander tax payers money for private use? In the USA, such a wealthy country, the President is billed for every thing he and his family eats in the White House. In Canada, the government does not provide free internet facilities to the PM. This fellow is expecting too much from a poor country. This is the typical mentality of our old politicians - we have to be maintained and made to enjoy at tax payers cost.

Ranil may have put his foot in his mouth due to his arrogance when giving the statement to the CID. So technically he has to face the consequences. However we have all forgotten the leadership he gave the country in so many precarious situations. Education reforms 1982 white paper, Industrialisation, the ceasefire with the LTTE, the 2002 economic crisis, the recovery from the 2022 crisis. Though he was the PM/prez 6 times the actual number of days he actually had to do something is very little.
