The executive committee of the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union (SLSMU) has decided to operate two trains of required aircraft fuel stocks to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) noon today from Kolonnawa.
SLSMU Chief Secretary Kasun Chamara Jayasekera told the Daily Mirror that the decision was taken because the country does not want to be discredited in the eyes of the international community.
There is an aircraft fuel shortage at BIA, he said.
A total of 1.4 million liters of jet fuel is sent to BIA daily, he said.
Meanwhile, a total of 600,000 liters of fuel for Anuradhapura, 200,000 liters of fuel for Vavunia, 500,000 liters for Galle, and 400,000 liters for Batticoloa and Peradeniya are distributed daily by trains.
A total of 495 metric tons of prima flour is transported daily from the Prima factory at China Harbour to the Seeduwa Prima Factory. Due to the current trade union action, the whole transportation process has been suspended.
The required furnace oil stock transportation for the Highland company was also suspended.
Except for the aircraft oil stocks for the BIA, all other transport was suspended, the Chief Secretary said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
