Colombo, May 7 (Daily Mirror) - Following the results of the Local Government elections, 50 percent of the Pradeshiya Sabha budget is required to be decided by the SLPP. Although the President provides funds, the government must still obtain approval by a 50% majority from the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Governors, all of whom are appointed by the SLPP, said SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam.
Addressing the media, he said the Maithripala Sirisena government was defeated after 37 months, and this government was defeated after just seven months.
The SLPP had managed to acquire 600,000 votes within six months, and this is the treasury that was stolen from Mahinda Rajapaksa.
“In the future, the SLPP will be able to reclaim all the treasuries that are not currently with the NPP government. The votes lost by the NPP government have been received by the SLPP,” Kariyawasam said.
Meanwhile, SLPP MP Sanjeeva Edirimanna said the political significance of the recent Local Government election results indicates the end of the mandate of the current politicians.
“The SLPP has taken less than six months to increase its results in the elections. Therefore, the SLPP is urging the government to recognise this mandate. The National People's Power (NPP) is trying to compare these election results with those of February 10, 2018,” he added.
