SLPA officials facing Rs. 220 Mn loss claims sent on Europe tour: Civil Intelligence Front

Colombo, June 11 (Daily Mirror) - The Civil Intelligence Front today (11) accused the incumbent government of approving a European tour for two Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) chiefs, who are alleged to have caused a loss of Rs. 220 million to the government.

The loss reportedly occurred when a modern, high-tech pilot vessel, received as Japanese assistance for the Trincomalee Port, was damaged during a private excursion.

The convenor of the Front, Sanjaya Mahawatte, made this statement at a media briefing held in Colombo today (11).

According to Mahawatte, the current Managing Director of the SLPA and three other officials from the Trincomalee Port will be participating in the European tour.

He added that the Civil Intelligence Front had filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption last January, requesting an investigation into the incident and recovery of the financial loss from the SLPA Managing Director.

Mahawatte further said that although more than five months have passed since the complaint was submitted, no investigation has commenced. He urged the President to expedite the process by transferring or suspending the Managing Director of the Ports Authority to allow for a fair investigation.
