The SLFP’s Central Committee (CC) is to meet this afternoon (12) to discuss the election campaign and the negative remarks made by certain SLPP politicians against the SLFP and its leaders, party spokesman former State Minister Weerakumara Dissanayaka said yesterday.
All district and electoral organisers of the SLFP were invited to participate in the CC meeting held with former President and party leader Maithripala Sirisena at the chair, he added.
Addressing the weekly news briefing at the party office last afternoon, Mr. Dissanayaka said the SLFP had confronted with a number challenges, brickbats and insults from members of the SLPP.
“But we don’t get shaken from those malicious allegations. Our main objective is to ensure a two thirds victory for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. We are sad to note that they have forgotten their main task and instead started blocking our journey, which would eventually weaken our camp,” he stressed.
Mr. Dissanayaka said President Rajapaksa has unfinished tasks to complete and that could not be completed without an absolute majority and his own government with Parliamentary power. That feat could be achieved only by ensuring a major victory for the SLPP at the general election, he noted.
In response to a journalist, Mr. Dissanayaka said if former Finance Minister and Ravi Karunanayaka avoids court summons, former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda commits the same offence as he had evaded the courts four times where he should have appeared before court as a suspect on the alleged abduction and murder of 11 Tamil youth.
