Following the arrest of Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka over the allegations of sexual assault of a woman in Sydney, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) initiate a thorough inquiry into the matter and said it will take stern action against the player if found guilty.
The SLC confirmed that it was notified by the ICC that Gunathilaka has been arrested on the allegations of sexual assault of a woman in Sydney, and he is due to appear in court tomorrow (November 7, 2022).
“SLC will closely monitor the proceedings in court and, in consultation with the ICC, will expeditiously initiate a thorough inquiry into the matter and take stern action against the cricketer, if found guilty,” the SLC said

If SL wants to win Games, discipline the players thoroughly!! The players must adhere to code of conduct, and the management must insist and instill discipline !! Yeah!!

Keeping player locked up, when injured without sending them back, will bring about so much need and frustration. It is up to SLC and strategic coach Mahela to arrange for that for all players not just him.

If he is found guilty, he has to spend many years behind the bars in Australia. SLC’s action there after is immaterial

Come on, the country would not be anything but for the people. And people are for suffering, and their own repression. They can't even gather to beat back 300,000 military even if their children were starving and also being molested. Once country can stand up to become democratic, then this might be a shame, but right now only to be expected.

SLC need NOT to worry if DG found guilty in NSW he'll be jailed for 4 years at least, the state sexual assault law 61i of 1900 (NSW) can sentence for 14 years but parole will be granted in 4 years!!

SLC - let the Australia to follow their legal process. If he was found guilty, I do not think SLC has a role to play except watching the proceedings. You had many opportunities to fix him (or to get rid of) - but you did not and let this mane to continue his anti-social actions.

In the past, SLC has taken either no action or given only a 'Slap on the Rist' when cricketers were found guilty of serious violations of discipline. It is also necessary to take action against SLC for ruining cricket in Sri Lanka. For example increasing the number of Premier Division teams to 22 to get votes from the clubs when other countries have (for example, Australia 6, South Africa only 6 with a population of 60 million, and England 12 with a population of 66 million) very few teams. Also for NOT building large crocket grounds with fast wickets and for NOT setting up a Cricket Academy etc.

What a serious allegation that the Australian Government had promised to provide 1000 jobs to Sri lankans if the Sri Lanka cricket team defeated the England cricket team as beamed in the Sinhala youtube chanel from Sri Lanka so that Australia can qualify for the semi finals of the T20 Cricket World Cup. It is an utter insult to Australian cricket and should be investigated.

Quote: "SLC to take stern action against Danushka if found guilty." Like you did in 2018 for the alleged rape of a Norwegian tourist in a hotel in SL? If found guilty he will be spending upto 14 years in a prison in Australia, then deported and banned from entering Australia again. Won'e be much disciplinary action SL Cricket can take.

Danushka Gunathilaka has been a serial sexual offender and a good for nothing cricketer. He and a few others had been breaching code of conduct and discipline of the team on quite regular basis . But , same as in politics in this country administrators of cricket only hoodwink and fool the masses and never genuinely wanted to take any action against this none-performing senseless “deadwood “ liability in the team. He selection to the world-cup squad itself a nothing but a corrupt decision, how on earth he was selected for the team ,team Capetian’s opinion about his selection despite failures and how the management kept him with the team when he was ruled out of the team due to injury and being replaced requires an investigation. Sloppy selection committee, Sloppy administration , and sloppy captain shall be held responsible for selecting this person for the touring squad , selecting him for playing 11 and then how on earth he was still staying with the team when he was replaced !

SLC should not have kept Danushka in Australia once it was clear he couldn't play. Better to have brought Danushka to Sri Lanka and flown him him back to Australia if necessary than have him in Australia which got him into a lot of trouble. SLC is now making these meaningless statements trying to cover up for their mistake with letting him stay on when not necessary.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya/SJB lso to blame for this incident. It was SJB who pushed for the re-inclusion of Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Dhanushka Gunathilake back into the team after the three were banned for violating the bio-secure bubble during the 2021 tour to England. It was SJB MP Lakshman Kiriella who requested to include the violators in the team despite the ban. Like all SJB action, more terrible mistakes. Hope the other parties remind Lakshman Kiriella and any other SJB about SJB foolishness if SJB ever bring up about cricket again.

You typical traitor or school boy. All adult in Sri Lanka knows we have to everything to win, by hook or by crook. It is not your family member who is killed or allegedly raped. Accept our culture or get out. Dhanushka is vital like SJB says for our cricket, just like Kusal and Niroshan. I don't have problem even if rape is true, because she's a white! Their kind abuse our nation for centuries. Now time we won by any means possible!

Our man was set up. Woman known to be selling her services for money, but then paid by England supporter to entice one of our men and then claim rape. She had it all planned out until after it all happened she said Danushka sexual assault. Quite a few rape allegations in Australia now with jilted woman too, so not surprising the woman did the same as other Australian woman, but for fees.

This offence shows the mental state of cricketers of Sri Lanka. They did not develop this habit overnight, but it was in their upbringing and callous regard by those responsible for discipline of players. Another set of competitors went to Europe, and they started vanishing every day in the society. Do we have to spend hard earned foreign exchange to develop these youngsters?

Australia will take care on matters. Punish the management of SLC on tour for letting him stray as he wished, and not putting him back on a flight when got injured. If he was allowed to freely mingle with public in this manner, he could have got bribed by betting personnel to play bad at matches too, as well approached other players. Well he played bad too.

The whole responsibility falls on the SLC management. This guy already had a similar incident in 2018 and then got a slap on the wrist punishment for breaking the Covid bubble during a UK tour in 2021. Clearly the management is spineless to continue with these questionable characters. When a player is declared injured during the tournament, the normal practice is to be sent back home. What was he doing adding to the expenses with his continued stay. When spineless characters manage SLC, they cannot instil any discipline on the players.

ICC must take action against Sri Lanka Cricket and the administrators for acting dishonestly , when the Sri Lanka cricket announced Dhanushka G was injured hence they need a replacement. SLC brought an additional players into the squad as replacements and now has been found they have kept the so-called injured Dhanushka with the quad which amounts to deliberately branching the policies of ICC tournaments ! Stern action against SLC officials shall be taken by the ICC for keeping Gunatilleke in Australia when he was ruled out of the tournament due to injury.

Living in Sydney the stories coming out don't look good...the cricketers were more interested in parties, dinners and shopping for luxury items (as they don't pay duty)etc...may be wrong attitude and focus. Also the public should take blame as they thought they were invincible after the Asia cup win and forgot the big picture. Danushka is big trouble as these allegations are massive in Australia along with Domestic violence. Would not be surprised if he is held here for over 3-6 months.

I remember there was an allegation of rape against a senior Sri Lankan cicketer during a tour of Zimbabwe about 10 years ago but nothing happened and the authorities in Zimbabwe banned him from entering the country under any circumstances while SLC swept the whole incident under the carpet. Even if SLC ignores it as a minor incident the authorities in Australia will take stern action against Gunathillake because the law here applies to everyone be it a President Prime Minister their friends or their kith and kin. Nobody tries to interfere with the law of the country
