Sri Lanka ranked 64 out of 121 countries in the Global Hunger Index 2022. With a score of 13.6, Sri Lanka has a level of hunger that is moderate.
In 2021, Sri Lanka ranked 65 out of 116 countries while in 2020 the country was placed at 64th position.
The Global Hunger Index (GHI) is a tool for comprehensively measuring and tracking hunger at global, regional, and national levels.
In Asia, India ranked 107 while Pakistan (99), Bangladesh (84), Nepal (81) and Afghanistan with a rank of 109 is the only country behind India.
According to the 2022 GHI, Hunger is at alarming levels in 5 countries—Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, and Yemen— and is provisionally considered alarming in 4 additional countries— Burundi, Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria. In a further 35 countries, hunger is considered serious, based on 2022 GHI scores and provisional designations. Download the report or click on the map below to learn more.
The GHI said the world is facing a serious setback in efforts to end hunger with conflict, the climate crisis and the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, compounded by the war in Ukraine are major drivers of hunger.
The report warned that the situation is expected to deteriorate further as global crises overlap. “Possible solutions and the scale of investment required are known and quantified. Rather, the problem lies in policy implementation and the lack of political will in the world," it said.

Good lesson from te Rajapakshas supporters Saturday, 15 October 2022 04:20 PM
Ranil/ Rajapakshas and their ministers MPs will not agree on this. If they continue in power they will see many skeletons walking in this country.

You all will go to Hell. Saturday, 15 October 2022 05:56 PM
Still Rajapakshas are not willing to return the country's wealth invested in many countries but they want to come back to power. The whole country is suffering because of Ranil/Rajapakshas family.

Take a look at the hotel buffets, high teas in Sri Lanka. So much waste of food. Why do some people eat like pigs and nothing for others?

If it is true that our paradise was visited by Buddha thrice and blessed by him as told to us by our Theros and supposedly recorded in the Mahawansa where are these blessings ? why is there any food insecurity in our land. Our Theros also said that it is legitimate to kill others not of our persuasion as it is permitted by Buddha, this allowed us to commit heinous crimes and now facing karmic retribution

It's pathetic to see how people are still supportive of these thieves, the rajapakses, and how disgraceful to see them trying to come into power.
Just yesterday a boy of about 15 walked into the vegetable shop and begged for just 2 bananas since he was starving. It broke my heart and many people around offered to buy him the bananas. The curse of the entire nation is on the rajapakses for generations to come.

Jeff: is there land to cultivate? Almost all the houses dont have the tiniest space to grow some grass even. When the water bills are increased nearly 3 times more, how can you expect people to cultivate without watering the crops?? In the cities we don't all live near rivers even to be able to carry water from the river! Theres no space to dig wells, is there? Easier said than done, eh? There are practical issues for cultivation. We are living in the 21st century, in a digital era, going through immense hardships due to no fault of ours. we are certainly not moving forward, but backwards to stone age.
