SL in essential need for new climate laws to save economy: Sajith



Colombo, Sept. 2 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka is in essential need of new climate related laws to reduce the anticipated adverse impact on its climate, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said today.  

Speaking during a special session of the Sectorial Oversight Committee on Climate Change, Premadasa said Sri Lanka’s paddy yield is expected to be reduced by 12 percent to 41 percent by 2060 while losses of infrastructure caused by climate disasters would be within the range of Rs. 0.38 billion (Rs. 3800 million). 

He said the climate related disasters will make Sri Lanka lose 3.68 percent of its GDP annually until 2050.
