Responding to reports that Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) is to remove Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka from the post of party chairman, the party General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said they had not taken any final decision on the matter.
"We have not taken a final decision, but he is definitely working against party interests. This is bad. Some SJB MPs have had a discussion with Mr. Fonseka but it has not brought any results. He does not seem to be listening to anyone," Madduma Bandara said without ruling out disciplinary action against the former Army commander.
It was reported that Fonseka had told some SJB MPs who had met him recently that he did not intend to back the candidacy of Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa at the next presidential election.
However, Secretary to Field Marshal Fonseka Jagath Kumara said the MP has not taken a final decision on contesting for the presidency. “Some stories are being planted by interested parties to destroy the SJB,” he added. (Yohan Perera)

Well SP has been an useless leader for the SJB. All he has done is criticize and whine, while cushioning the chip on his shoulder by forcing a few big words into his english sentences.

Sajith would not be a good Executive President for Sri Lanka, and Fonseka probably wouldn't be either. There are far more qualified young people in the party who are better suited for this office.

It would be absolutely the right decision for Sarath Fonseka not to support Premadasa's candidacy for the presidency and to run himself as the better and more successful candidate in every respect!!! You can't win elections with Premadasa, especially the presidential one!!! He lacks everything that should characterize a president!!! Fonseka, on the other hand, has all the requirements and personality traits, both the human and the politically required qualities, that the future President of Sri Lanka must have!!!

Late Ranasinghe Premadasa's strategies of Garment factories initiative brought foreign exchange to Sri Lanka, which no other Presidents nor Primeministers could do it, his Gamudawa programme, construction of houses etc; were miles stones in his political career, Sajith Premadasa too could perform similarly, an opportunity should be afforded to him, Sarath Fonseka contested presidential election and lost, presidential candidates should be acceptable by all communities, who should be able to embrace all communities and be flexible as well.
