SJB divided on constitutional reforms



Colombo, Feb 12 (Daily Mirror) - Divisions within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) on constitutional reforms was witnessed today when MP Rajitha Senaratne stated that the Executive Presidency should be abolished immidately while the party General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara insisted that a Presidential election should be held first and the reforms should come next.

The divisions were evident when both vocied their opinion at a dicussion organized by the National Movement for Social Justice. 

"Why should we have a Presidential election if we are to abolish the presidency?" Dr. Senaratne questioned. 

However Madduma Bandara who  commented said people's right for franchise should be upheld. Prriority should be given to people's right for franchise," he said.
