Colombo, Feb 5 (Daily Mirror) - Justifying his earlier verbal attack on Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa, the party Chairman Sarath Fonseka said he did not have any other option but to voice his grievances in public when the party higher-ups are making unilateral decisions.
He was responding to the remarks made by SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa during the weekend, where he said those who criticize the party leadership and break discipline can leave the party. Mr. Premadasa also indicated that disciplinary action would be taken against MP. Fonseka.
“When decisions are taken unitarily, and when the opportunity for discussion and discourse is not provided within the party, the only option left is to voice these grievances to the public. We should always remember that the strength of the party is its members and well-wishers and not just a select few,” Field Marshal Fonseka said in his latest post on X.
“SJB is a party many people worked hard to build. It is through sheer hard work, dedication, and commitment that the SJB was developed. The foundation of the party is based on principles and values, and it is only if we uphold these values that can further strengthen the party,” he said.
“For far too long, political parties have been playing petty politics, forming alliances that betray the aspirations of the people. This has resulted in a bankrupt country after 76 years of independence. It is my fervent belief that Sri Lanka has to transcend from this practice and embrace values and policies that embody transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance and leadership. It is time we transcend from the politics of identities to the politics of policies.
It is true that to achieve electoral success, alliances need to be formed, but it is also important to note that these alliances need to reflect the will and aspirations of the people. If we form alliances with those that are rejected by the people, then we are causing harm to the party, we fought to collectively develop,” he added.
“We need to work to get people together, however, what's of paramount importance is that we strive to get the right people together. Only then can we achieve the goals and objectives set for the SJB which resonate with the genuine and legitimate aspirations of the people of this our great country, Sri Lanka,” he also said.
Daily Mirror reliably learns that some MPs of the SJB are rallying around Fonseka while others have criticized him for his action. Criticism has come from the Party General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara himself.

High time SF forms his own political party in any party there difference people will have different opinions and ideas not only that self interest due to selfishness so its difficult to keep all the members together when there is split it's better to leave the party or retire from politics ,SF you cannot always agree to decision made by the party and vice versa party cannot always agree to your terms and conditions.

If that’s how the party behaves where a selected few are consulted, it’s better to leave. Seems there is no respect being practiced in the party, imagine them fighting to run the country. Had high hopes for SJB being an alternative but seems it’s no longer the case.

I urge SF not to destabilise the party at this point in time. When country is look for an alternative LEADERSHIP, this internal conflict could give better chance for opponent. You had misunderstanding with many people.

An open request to all SJB members - We are at the most crucial time because we are in the ELECTION YEAR at a time when the ECONOMY should be managed professionally. Internal conflict in this nature could affect the outcome of the ELECTION RESULTS. More time may need to be spent on solving internal affairs thus less time for economy prosperity. As far as ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE are concerned, SF is NO WHERE.

Is an external power driving SF to make these allegations in public to destroy SJB. SF action to criticise in public should be condemned and again why SF was not informed by the party leadership of people going to be annexed to SJB. He is the chairman of SJB and has the right to know prior to bringing in people. Both SF and party leadership are at fault and should avoid such divisions and embarrassments in future if to go ahead and face elections. SF has " KARNU KATAK" and high ego, hence knowing these things, SJB strategically take decisions to avoid such conflicts.

Sajith should let him ago. whenever he gets an opportunity with the media He hardly tries to promote the party or the leader . look, even here he is talking only about weakness rather than many strengths party possesses. what type of a party chairmen is he. ?? Sajith is tirelessly working to get the party cross the line first at the next election. give the chairmanship to someone like Kabir or even Mujiber. who tirelessly working to promote the party. we badly need SJB in next election with full strength. we don't need to see JVP or Ranil/pohottu having a free ride.

Voters want leaders who represent values with which they can identify, who follow clear political goals and consistently implement and enforce them!!! They firmly reject political fickleness, uncertainty and unreliability of political actors!!!

Fonseka also agrees one hundred percent with his published statements and criticisms!!! There is nothing he says that needs to be taken back!!! The problem is the internal state of the SJB, divided and often chaotic, without a really convincing leader who holds the party together, exchanges ideas and communicates with others!!! Premadasa is weak in leadership, resistant to advice and reacts like a mimosa when he and his policies are criticized!!! Fonseka says clearly and unambiguously what is important if you want to replace the government and take power yourself!!! There is nothing to add in terms of content, he says what the party's foundation is and how important the common sense of values and the firm connection to the will of the people!!! The SJB is lucky to have a man like Fonseka in its ranks!!! He is the only politician in this party who has the stature to be president and the skills for responsible leadership!!!
