Rs. 55,000 fine for riding on single wheel

Colombo, May 27 (Daily Mirror) - A young man who showed his prowess by raising the front wheel and riding the motorcycle on single wheel in a public road was fined Rs, 55,000 and severely reprimanded by Kuliyapitiya magistrate Randika Lakmal Jayalath.

Police had filed action under five counts including inconvenience to the public, bearing an expired riding licence and endangering the lives of the public, without the number plates and the side mirrors being properly fitted.

The suspect young man Dasun Shewantha of Kanadulla area in Kuliyapitiya pleaded guilty to the charges.

HQI Kuliyapitiya Police CI Kamal Ratnayake told court that the suspect was riding his motorcycle haphazardly on single wheel and causing a loud noise much to the annoyance of the public. He stated that riding on single wheel in this manner would endanger the lives of the pedestrians and the rider as well. He pointed out that the motorcycle was a two wheel vehicle.

He requested court to impose a punishment that would be a message to other young men resorting to similar offences.
