Rs. 245 Mn paid to Easter attack victims as per Supreme Court judgment - AG



Colombo, Feb 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today that Rs. 245 million has been paid to the victims from the funds recovered, as ordered by the Supreme Court judgment, in connection with the fundamental rights petitions filed over the failure to prevent the Easter Sunday bomb attacks.

Additional Solicitor General Viveka Siriwardena, appearing for the Attorney General, informed the Supreme Court that, as per the Supreme Court judgment, the respondents have paid a total of Rs. 311 million to the Office for Reparations.

She further stated that out of the Rs. 311 million paid to the Office for Reparations, Rs. 245 million has been distributed among 412 victims as of January 31 this year.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, comprising Chief Justice Murdu Fernando, Justice S. Thurairaja, and Justice A.H.M.D. Nawaz, fixed the petitions for May 21 to review the progress of the compensation payments.
