Rs. 2,000 Million proposed to support rural bus services

Colombo, Nov. 7 (Daily Mirror) - The 2026 budget proposal includes an allocation of Rs. 2,000 million to support the continuation of essential bus services in areas where passengers face hardships due to reduced operations.

It has been observed that private sector bus operators have cut services on certain routes across the country because of insufficient revenue, significantly affecting commuters in rural areas.

To address the issue, the government plans to formulate a programme to systematically identify such routes and ensure the provision of sustainable transport services for affected communities.
