Royal College student seriously injured after fall from school building

Colombo, March 12 (Daily Mirror) - A 15-year-old student of Royal College Colombo was seriously injured after falling from a three-storey building on the school premises last morning (11), police said.

The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m, police said. The student, a resident of Hokandara, reportedly attempted to enter a closed classroom on the upper floor of the building through a window.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the classroom had been locked at the time as many students had left to join a motorcade organised in connection with the annual cricket “Big Match” between Royal College Colombo and S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia.

Police said the student had tried to climb into the classroom with his school bag on his shoulder when he suddenly slipped and fell to the ground. Police also found that a tree branch located near the upper floor had broken off and fallen along with him during the incident.

The injured student was immediately admitted to National Hospital of Sri Lanka in Colombo and is currently receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
