Rohan Seneviratne assumes duties as CEB’s new GM

Rohan Seneviratne has assumed duties as the new General Manager of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

He is an electrical engineer by profession and served in many Divisions of the CEB in different capacities.

Seneviratne is one of the pioneers in introducing roof top solar panels in the country and contributed immensely to the promotion of roof top solar in the country, the CEB said.

He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with over 35 years of experience in the field of engineering and technology.

Thank You DM for publishing this news item, We Engineers most of the time are a non entity when it comes to news. Only if say, a GA or DRO or a grama seveka is appointed it is great news which comes in the newspapers. Especially I belonged to the breed of Engineers at Generating Stations and therefore are backroom boys - away from the limelight as against the aforesaid govt employees. [ ie GA s etc ] , IN fact this is the first time such a CEB Engineer's appointment to such ahigh post has been published by the newspapers. Keep up the good work,

CEB GMs are pointed solely on a seniority basis. This person will be serving for about 1.5 years until he retires. The next inline for the post is known and the one that follows is also known. There are no performance-based appointments in CEB for these posts. Those who come up for the GM post are awaiting retirement, hence don't take radical decisions as a performance-driven GM would do. their sole concern is to retire without trouble.

This is nothing new. Usually, the general manger is appointed from within the CEB. This guy will follow the status quo. Don't expect anything great coming from this appointment.
