Colombo, July 17 (Daily Mirror) - During today's excavation at the Chemmani mass grave, 11 new skeletal remains were identified. Among them, a copper ring still attached to a finger bone was also discovered.
The court had granted permission for the third phase of excavations at the Chemmani mass grave to continue for 56 days. Accordingly, excavation work on the 35th day of this phase was carried out today (Friday).
During today's excavation, 11 new skeletons were identified, while seven of the skeletons that had already been identified were fully excavated and recovered.
Among the skeletal remains identified today were a damaged ring, a copper ring still attached to a finger bone, and two clusters of skeletal remains found together.
So far, a total of 89 days of excavation work have been carried out across the first, second, and third phases of the Chemmani mass grave investigation. During this period, 431 skeletal remains have been identified, of which 423 have been completely excavated and recovered.
