Colombo, April 4 (Daily Mirror) - The Supreme Court today dismissed 53 writ petitions and six fundamental rights petitions filed by various political parties and independent groups challenging the rejection of nomination papers submitted for the Local Government elections.
Following a lengthy hearing, Supreme Court Justices S. Thurairaja, Mahinda Samayawardena and Sampath Abayakoon decided to dismiss the petitions, refusing to grant leave to proceed and declining to issue notices to the respondents. The Court upheld preliminary objections raised by the Attorney General regarding the maintainability of the applications.
