Record lottery prize to be awarded tomorrow



Colombo, April 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development is preparing to award the largest lottery prize in its history, with a winning cheque exceeding Rs. 620 million.

The record-setting jackpot of Rs. 629,855,919.60, drawn in the Jayamalle Kapruka Lottery on February 19, 2026, marks a significant milestone in the country’s lottery history.

The official cheque presentation ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Development Lottery Board Auditorium. The event will take place under the patronage of Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Co-operative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe.

Authorities say the prize represents the highest-ever lottery payout in the country, reflecting growing public interest in lottery games and the increasing scale of prize offerings in the sector.
