Colombo, Dec 29 (Daily Mirror) - In response to three recent deaths initially linked to Covid-19, the Health Ministry clarified that none of the deaths were caused by the coronavirus.
Speaking at a media briefing, Deputy Director General (Medical Services) Dr. G. Wijesuriya said the respective deaths had occurred due to different prolonged diseases.
“These three deaths from Kandy, Gampaha and Anuradhapura hospitals have nothing to do with Covid infection despite their PCR reports testing positive following postmortems,” Dr Wijesuriya stated.
Dr, Wijesuriya also responded to the reports of a Covid-19 death being recorded from the Lady Ridgeway Hospital (LRH), saying that there was no death reported from the LRH.
Meanwhile, he assured that the Ministry is on high alert in the wake of the surge in Covid cases globally and has instructed all hospitals to take relevant steps accordingly.
