Real change lies with leaders and public officers: Dr. Harini
Colombo, Sept. 3 (Daily Mirror) - The responsibility of bringing real change to the country lies not only with political leaders but also with the officers leading the public service, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya said.
She made these remarks at the ceremony where appointment letters were presented to new officers recruited on a limited basis to the third grade of the Sri Lanka Educational Administrative Service.
“The education sector carries a big part of the dream of building the transformation era we hope for. The country needs a strong public service. But this is not just a job – it is a mission to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” the Minister said.
She stressed the need for a unique education administration service that can take responsible and fair decisions to meet its duties properly.
“To move away from old practices in the education sector and enter a new transformative era, you must first identify the people’s problems and then take the right steps to solve them,” she added.
The Minister further said that a strong public service must work hand in hand with strong political authority, with the main aim of fulfilling the aspirations of the people without being influenced by personal agendas.
