Colombo, August 13 (Daily Mirror) - Announcing the appointment, Transport and Highways Deputy Minister Prasanna Gunasena said the government’s aim is to operate the railway service more efficiently.

He noted that many people have a strong affinity for the railways and that their support, along with the cooperation of all stakeholders, is essential for rapid development.

The Deputy Minister said that the change in administration was a necessary step toward achieving these goals.

Always the GMR has been an Engineer and I wonder if the appointee is an administrator who sans any engineering/technical knowledge

Not necessary, good management skills is what is required. There are enough engineers to do that part.

Yes absolutely. General Manager means skilled of management individual and he shouldn't an engineer and it is not necessary. Administration implies an executive post and his additional knowledge is an advantage if he has for him personally. Real managers know the function of him to raise the task.

Please make all trains to the North start from Mt.Lavnia and stopping at Wellawatte, Colpetty and to Fort. These trains should start after 6am to be safe for the commuters to reach these stations safely. Driving early hours of the morning is risky. Hailing tuk tuk and taxis difficult in the very early morning. You all should carry out a ‘ market research ‘ from the travellers to the North.

Whoever assumes as the general manager of the government railway should comply with his job description. He should make the trains operated on time. He has to move with the other stakeholders like the drivers guards locomotive engineers station masters signal coordinators and minor staff members very cordially. In order to provide a better service for the commuters. Further he should take measures to minimise continuous derailments. The wild elephants are more often run over by the trains. He should moot this issue with the wild life officers and other experts for a better result

This new appointee is not qualified individual for this task? Some people introduce as about an engineer for this position. His or her additional knowledge is his ability but as a G M post is not only engineer and he knows to continue the task with using his strategies typically. Sri Lanka Administrative Service is the toppest state service that's why all mechanism are managed and also financial affairs with entire departments, coperations, statuatory boards and some other authorities are administered by the Administrative Service. Neglecting of Ministerial Secretary means no entire task going on into the dept or any other so on. As you know sir there isn't any person over the permanent secretary of the ministry.
