Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is to make a special statement on the Batalanda Commission report which was tabled in Parliament by Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayke earlier today.
Wickremesinghe's office said he will reveal some matters with regard to the Commission report on Sunday (16).

You should have made your Statement when the report came out. Make your statement about your involvement to the CID now.

Ranil now you are badly trapped. No chance man, you will have to admit your dirty sins on this issue and surrender to the Police that is the only alternative.

We have seen how politicians manipulated things to hush up their crimes. If RW thinks old days politics will work in this advancing world, he is mistaken.

I am also with you, but so far whatever government comes whatever laws with in our judicial system the political power is all above. I am doubt about that RW get the punishment that crimes he has done or he is the one of crooked and cheap politician who has help the his gang and the supporters allowed looted the public funds with out any mercy. Anyway hope is the best as we have some faith about the NPP regime. If they play out I am sure it will be the end of the NPP regime

He has to enter into parliament again somehow and answer unlike the way he did with Al Jazeera. Opportune time for JVP/NPP to get together with the Geneva Hero, Mahainda Rajapaksha again.

Going to reveal the facts that CBK and MR blackmailed you threatening that if you do not do as they say, you will be exposed?? How did your house keeper die at the age of 35 years, when you knew that he has damning evidence against you? Why did not Tilak not cross examine him when he had the chance? Yes, please go ahead and explain. Your were only the minister of industries. Why did you take-on the responsibilities of the Minister of Defense/Internal Security? Did RP delegate you to do that??

Discrediting the evidence? JVP is lucky AKD is at the helm and not late Somawansa Amarasinghe. Hypocritic murderers of the NPP (actually JVP). He sent his son overseas to get his education while the rest of the parents were scared to send their children to national universities and they seeked employment instead of degrees. AKD would have been too young to be a part of this as he would have been in school.

Crime against humanity in this holy country was committed by all Executive presidents. We are not sure that NPP government will take action because this is politics but mother nature will deliver justice at an appropriate time.

He might say there was an armed insurrection and the Government had to act. However, totally innocent young boys and girls were tortured and boys were killed at the end and girls were raped and killed. No matter what kind of argument you put, it is impossible to justify brutal massacre of totally innocent young boys and girls. If they had done something wrong, they should be produced at the courts and let courts to decide about their fate. Each of the Batalanda murderers acted as Judge, Jury and the Executioner.

It is superficial. The details are all in the report including punishment to the "wadakayas". Just a waste of time.

Not necessary, there is a Judicial body to be giving statements soon, you must get ready to be handcuffed to serve the sentences shortly. That day will be a real Independence that people feel gained in Sri Lanka.

This is absolutely a useless exercise. CBK set up Batalanda Commission but did not take any action against torturers and murderers of Batalanda. NPP too will not any action the man in charge of Batalanda Torture Centre, who is going to make a special statement on Batalanda Commission. At most he might lose civic rights. He will never be sentenced to death or a long prison sentence.

WE THE PEOPLE WANT TO SEE THIS TO THE END AND ALL THOSE RESPONSIBLE MUST BE BROUGHT BEFORE A COURT OF LAW AND JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED TO THE FAMILIES OF THOSE THAT LOST THEIR LIVES OR BE ILLTREATED IN Saturday, 15 March 2025 12:44 PM
CBK DIDN'T, BUT WHAT MAKES SOME OF YOU THINK THE PRESIDENT WILL NOT?. IF THE GOVT IS SMART THEY WILL SEE THIS THROUGH THE END ALL ALL THOSE DIRECTLY INVOLVED MUST BE TRIED BY THE ICC. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN CLEAN UP CORRUPT POLITICS IN THIS COUNTRY. NO SCRATCHING BACKS EVEN FOR THE SAKE OF POLITICS, THOSE WHO VOTED THIS GOVT IN WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY DECISION THAT IS RELATED TO POLITICS. AS THE SAYING GOES, DO THE CRIME, AT SOME POINT IN TIME THOSE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE CRIME. YEARS HAVE PASSED BUT KARMA COMES BACK TO BITE THOSE WHO STOOP TO THE LOWEST OF LEVELS TO GAIN IN POLITICS AND OR TO HELP THEIR STOOGES OR BUDDIES.

Only now he realized to make a statement after more than 27 years , after completion of BATALANDA Report in 1997/98 and release 700 copies in both languages to the public . OF Course NOW TOO LATE for a special public Statement , Now he may need to do a confession in front of a special inquire panel may be appointed by the law enforcement agency to answer all the questions even about the both untimely deaths of his helper and the OIC crimes at that time in SAPUGASKANDA police station .

I was an 18-year-old youth during that period. The fear of the JVP was so great that all businesses would close by 3 PM upon receiving a JVP "chit." Defying the JVP meant not only death but a brutal and degrading execution designed to set an example for the rest of society. They instilled fear in the police, armed forces, and their families. Judges were also targeted and killed, plunging the entire society into terror. This situation began during JR's tenure, and when RP took over, he invited the JVP for talks and attempted various peaceful measures. However, they continued their killing spree and campaign of fear. Yes, innocent people inevitably die in conflicts like these. The same happened when MR defeated the LTTE. But when dealing with a lawless armed group attempting to overthrow a legitimate government—when the entire civilized society is paralyzed by fear—you cannot always follow the rule of law. Extraordinary threats sometimes require extraordinary measures. 1/2

These crimes, perpetrated under the guise of you and national security, represent a profound betrayal of public trust and the rule of law. The victims and their families, who endured unimaginable suffering, deserve not only recognition of their pain but also concrete action to hold perpetrators (you) accountable. While the Batalanda Commission shed light on these horrors, true reconciliation requires more than documentation——it necessitates institutional reforms, transparency, and an end to impunity for those in positions of authority. We urge the current government and civil society to honor the victims by ensuring such atrocities are never repeated. Strengthening democratic safeguards, empowering independent judiciary mechanisms, and fostering a culture of human rights must remain priorities. The legacy of Batalanda should serve as a catalyst for justice, not a forgotten chapter in history.

UNTIL WHOEVER GOVERNS THIS GOVT OR ANY OTHER, THE COUNTRY WILL NOT GET BACK TO PROSPERING UNTIL THOSE MENTION ABOVE ARE LIFTED UP AND OUT OF SUFFERING, STRUGGLES AND POVERTY. Saturday, 15 March 2025 01:00 PM
JVP FOUGHT FOR A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT REASON THAN THE LTTE, REMEMBER THE LTTE FOUGHT TO TAKE OVER THE NORTH AS A STATE OF THEIR OWN OR WHATEVER, I WAS YOUNG AND THAT IS THE IMPRESSION WE GOT AT THAT TIME. JVP FOUGHT FOR MANY OTHER INTERNAL REASONS, NOT TO DEVIDE AND TAKE OVER THE SOUTH. THE MAJORITY OF POOR, UNDER PRIVILEDGED, LESS FORTUNATE AND THOSE LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LINE WERE TREATED LIKE 2ND CLASS CITIZENS (A FORGOTTEN MAJORITY). NEVER GIVEN PROPER HEALTHCARE EMPLOYMENT AND EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES AND THE LIKES. PEOPLE BEGIN TO REBEL WHEN THEY HAVE LOST ALL HOPE IN GOVT'S AS THEY DO IN OTHER COUMTRIES TOO.

Ok. Now you have your government in power how are you going to help the poor? Last 4 months you were in power how much the poor were helped (more than what RW has done in his short term)? All we saw was just continuing with RW’s work. JVP said they were fighting for the downtrodden in 1971

"....he invited the JVP for talks and attempted various peaceful measures". Short of the truth young man, and short memory. After gaining a good proportion of votes at the Presidential elections, Wijeweera took part in the talks and the evil man Jayawardana duly banned the JVP from participating in further general election. Jayawardana got scared of increasing popularity of JVP. That was long before the latter resorting to armed struggle. This Jayawardana was the most crooked politician that ever existed in Sri Lankan politics. I would even blame him for the 1953 All Island Strike (Harthal) during which Army was deployed to quell the demonstrators. Several peaceful demonstrators were shot dead. Jayawardana was the Finance Minister at the time, and the chief architect of all that misery. The reason was his repressive budget that put screws on poor under-privileged people, and serving favorable portions to themselves, the rich.

During 88/89 civil unrest in the south of Sri Lanka was mainly due to use political power to rule the country with a iron hand by sitting above the law by rulers of that era . Basically politicians at that time used the power given by people to them for a better Sri Lanka , instead politicians at that time used that power thinking they could rule the country forever by slowly changing system from democratic to one man show . This was only an one reason for this civil unrest in the south of Sri Lanka during 88/89 and it proved that SRI LANKANS are NOT like some peoples in some part of the world that could rule under a one man OR one political party agenda , if they DO NOT complete the promises for a betterment of the country .
