Rains to continue till next Wednesday; minor flood threat forecast: Met. Department



The Meteorology Department said due to low-level atmospheric disturbances persisting in the vicinity of the country, there would be a possibility of minor flood situations and predominant rainy weather conditions would continue until next Wednesday (19).

The department's Director General Athula Karunanayaka said heavy rains exceeding 100 mm could be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-Western provinces.

He said thundershowers could be expected in the Western, Southern, North-Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Eastern provinces. 

The Meteorology Department had issued a red alert (high risk) to 13 districts, including Puttalam, Kurunegala, Matale, Gampaha, Kandy, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya, Colombo, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Galle, Matara, and Hambantota. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
