Rains predicted in most parts of island

Colombo, April 3 (Daily Mirror) - Amid the prevailing hot weather, the Department of Meteorology has predicted the return of rains, with atmospheric conditions becoming favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island.

According to the Met Department, showers or thundershowers are expected in several areas after 2 pm while fairly heavy rainfall of about 75 mm is likely at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North Central and Eastern provinces.

“Morning showers may also occur in the Eastern Province and in the Hambantota District,”

The department also warned that thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur in some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North Western and Uva provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara and Anuradhapura districts after 2 pm.
