Colombo, May 1 (Daily Mirror) - The parents and relatives of a second-year Engineering student at the Sabaragamuwa University have lodged a complaint with the Pussellawa Police, alleging that the student’s suicide was the result of relentless ragging.
The 23-year-old student from Ihalagama in Atabage, Gampola who returned home suddenly had taken his life by hanging on a tree behind his house on April 29.
The parents said he had narrated his harrowing experiences to his mother’s sister before he took his life.
Several of his fellow students of the university told the media that they lodged a complaint in this regard to the Samanalawewa Police. They said the students responsible for the incident had continued to rag a group of students including the deceased from the first year.
A suicide note written by the victim was presented during the inquest conducted by Dr. Amila De Mel, the Judicial Medical Officer at the Gampola Teaching Hospital.
