Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - The Kandy Municipal Council has introduced a new QR code-based system to streamline waste management in the city during the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
Public Health Inspectors (PHIs) said that residents can scan QR codes placed around the city to report garbage or food-related issues. They added that actions related to garbage complaints are taken within 10 minutes.
Additionally, all street vendors have been registered and issued identity cards containing QR codes to ensure proper regulation and hygiene standards.
Garbage collection is carried out every 45 minutes by a compactor truck, while supplementary cleaning is done using handcarts. The city and surrounding areas have been divided into zones, with each zone assigned a dedicated PHI responsible for immediate response.
If any waste management issue is identified, the assigned PHI takes prompt action, ensuring that the area is cleaned within 15 minutes of being notified.
The Kandy Public Health Inspectors confirmed that waste management activities in the city and surrounding areas are being carried out systematically, as planned by the Kandy Municipal Council.
