Purchase energy efficient electrical appliances for New Year: Sustainable Energy Authority

Colombo, April 10 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority urged the people to purchase high-energy efficient electrical appliances in the New Year, considering the energy crisis faced by the country.

Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Chairman Wijendra Bandara said it is a normal practice for people to purchase new aplliances and equipment for the New Year and that it is better to purchase high-energy efficient electrical appliances such as electric lamps, refrigerators,  air-conditioners and fans.

He said the authority has introduced an Energy Efficiency Rating Label with stars ranging from 1 to 5, showing the energy performance of particular appliances and equipment. 

He said electrical appliances and equipment with 4 or 5 stars are high energy efficient and urged people to make it a habit to purchase such appliances, though the prices may be higher.

The Chairman also urged people to consume electricity sparingly during the upcoming festive season, while urging the people to prepare sweet meats and other activities during the daytime.

He said it is better to limit New Year festival activities till 6 pm.
