Colombo, Sept. 14 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology has cautioned that the Heat Index — the temperature felt on the human body — is expected to climb to the ‘Caution level’ in parts of the Northern, North-Central and Eastern Provinces, as well as in the Moneragala district.
Health and safety officials urge the public to stay hydrated and take protective measures to avoid heat-related illnesses. Workers in outdoor job sites are advised to drink plenty of water, rest in shaded areas and pace their activities.
At home, residents are encouraged to keep a close watch on the elderly and the sick, while parents are reminded never to leave children unattended inside vehicles.
Authorities further recommend limiting outdoor activities, prioritising hydration, rest and shade and wearing light-colored, breathable clothing to stay cool.
