Public consultation begins on proposed Education Council in Sri Lanka



Colombo, April 8 (Daily Mirror) - Public consultation has commenced on the report of the committee appointed to submit recommendations for the establishment of an Education Council in Sri Lanka, the Education Ministry announced.

The proposed Education Council, introduced under the guidance of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education, aims to enhance the overall standards of the country’s education system. Its key objectives include legislation, quality assurance, accreditation of programmes and institutions, and certification of education professionals.

The committee’s report is currently available on the Ministry of Education website at moe.gov.lk, where the public can review its contents and submit feedback. The consultation process has been initiated under the direction of Chairman of the Parliamentary Sub-Committee on the Establishment of the Education Council, Mahinda Jayasinghe.

The Ministry said it will accept public comments until May 12, 2026, which can be submitted via email or through postal and fax channels.

Written submissions can be sent to the Additional Secretary (Institutions), Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Training, Isurupaya, Pelawatta, Battaramulla.
