Colombo, Feb 04 (Daily Mirror) - Students of Jaffna University staged a protest today in front of the university, opposing Independence Day celebrations.

Describing the day as a "black day" for the Tamil community, the protestors carried black flags and displayed placards condemning policies against Tamils in Sri Lanka.

During the demonstration, they removed the national flag hoisted on campus and replaced it with a black flag.

Yes go ahead with your international investigation. Right at the moment Election was held and at the moment democratically government and oppositions are trying to sought out issues for all the people and have no time at the moment to attend to your circus at the moment. At least leave room for the student to go ahead with free education given to you for at least for your education which also to an extent being tax paid by the poor hard working masses of this country of all communities of this country. No matter what you do, the intentions are same. Division on the basis of race is what is being demanded. What are the policies against Tamils they are talking about. Those must be their own planned policies against others in case they get power. There are no policies against anyone based on race in Sri Lanka . They could be in the highet office as long as they are working for a common goal rather than for their own goal. Perfect examples are Luxman Kadirgamer , Muttaiah Muralitharan , Kumaraswami, etc.

Think of non erasable 1958, 1977, 1983, 2009, 30 year civil war, burning of Jaffna library, burning Jaffna MPs house and the newly built Jaffna market, standardisation in education, raping and murders by the forces, death sentences of Sinhalese against the Tamils, pardoned and released by the previous presidents, In 2014 even after the war,completely demolished-and erased the 1850 built large Roman Catholic Tamil Church and a nearby Hindu kovil in Mylitty which were in the so called bogus high security area in Palali. Forcefully built a Buddhist temple in a Tamil persons ancestry land with deeds in Thylitty in Palaly district. Recently the Jaffna MP Dr Archuna Ramanathan was stopped by the Anuradhapura Police. Even after identifying himself as a MP, they said his card he showed was a bogus one and have charged him. Do you in your heart, would they have done it to a Sinhalese MP? Please answer. This is just a snippet. It has to be a two state one country for equality and fairness.

I fund the education of these ungrateful individuals. Check how many TIN numbers are registered with the Inland Revenue from Jaffna compared to the South, I’d bet it's just 1% in Jaffna. I urge the government to convert this university into a private institution and charge fees from this meagre populace.

All you are doing is giving ammunition to former politicians who have used the ethnic card to stir communal hatred for their own personal benefit since Independence. It is better to work together and progress by putting pressure on the Govt. to create an environment that provides equal opportunities to every Sri Lankan citizen irrespective of ethnicity.
