Prisoner breaks free at hospital, attacks officer with bottle

Colombo, July 24 (Daily Mirror) - A suspect in custody at the Colombo Remand Prison attempted to escape yesterday while being escorted to the psychiatric clinic at the Colombo National Hospital.

The incident occurred as prison officers were removing the suspect’s handcuffs prior to his consultation with a doctor. He fled the scene but was apprehended near the hospital’s main entrance shortly after.

During the escape attempt, the suspect reportedly broke a glass bottle and tried to attack a female prison officer. Officers managed to restrain him before any injuries were reported.

Following the incident, the suspect was taken back to the clinic and later returned to prison.
