Prison officers fire warning shots to foil escape attempt

Colombo, Dec 17 (Daily Mirror) - Officers of the Galle Prison opened fire into the air after two inmates attempted to escape from the prison, prison authorities said.

Prisons Spokesman Jagath Weerasinghe said that the inmates abandoned their escape attempt and returned to the prison premises after being frightened by the gunfire.

He further said that the two inmates sustained minor injuries after falling from the prison wall while attempting to escape. They were provided with medical treatment.
