Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Transport Minister Bimal Ratnayake visited patients at Gampola and Peradeniya hospitals following the deadly bus crash at Gerandi Ella in Kotmale which claimed 21 lives and injured at least 35.

Amarasuriya commended medical and emergency staff for their efforts under challenging conditions and affirmed the Transport Ministry is taking steps to address road safety.

Further, Deputy Minister Dr. Prasanna Gunasena also joined the hospital visits, meeting with the injured and their families.

When the late President Ranasinghe Premadasa was in power, the then 1st Lady used to visit hospitals first to comfort the victims, whenever there was such a mishap.

Even though it’s not the business of the public to know about the First Lady, the government must confirm whether there is a First Lady or not. This is as a matter of courtesy to the country. A supportive First Lady goes a long way towards the respect to the President. The First Lady should come out of her ‘ purdah’ for the public to see and take part in her duties.

Who knows if this is one of the buses that were restored on an priority basis after the NPP put on a show? Could be a technical defect too. No proper investigation are carried out on these accidents. Earlier also a bus went off the road and there was many speculations about the driver falling falling out/ jumping out??
