Prime Minister Harini appointed chairperson of Sri Lanka’s National Commission for UNESCO



Colombo, July 30 (Daily Mirror) - Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka National Commission for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Prime Minister’s Media Division announced.

Nalaka Kaluwawa, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, has been named Vice Chairperson of the Commission.

The appointments were formalized during a ceremony held on Tuesday (July 29) at the Ministry of Education in Isurupaya, Battaramulla, with Prime Minister Amarasuriya in attendance.

According to the statement, the National Commission is tasked with coordinating efforts across key ministries to support UNESCO’s core mandates — including education, science, culture, mass communication, social sciences, and environmental initiatives — in alignment with Sri Lanka’s national development goals.
