Colombo, March 23 (Daily Mirror) - In response to mounting concerns over rising prices of essential goods and the devaluation of the Sri Lankan Rupee against the US Dollar, State Minister for Finance Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya has unveiled a new strategy aimed at stabilising the market ahead of the upcoming festive season.
Addressing the media, Siyambalapitiya announced that the prices of imported goods and the Value Added Tax (VAT) will now be disclosed on a daily basis.
This initiative, scheduled to commence next Monday, will be executed by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
The move is intended to provide consumers with real-time information and better control over their spending amidst inflationary pressures.
Furthermore, Dr. Siyambalapitiya affirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to guarantee an uninterrupted flow of goods, averting any potential shortages that could disrupt during the festive season.

This is a joke. Your government fixed a formula for petroleum products and is it adjusted the way it should be despite world prices and appreciation of the USD. This is the last straw for survival of this administration. The next thing Syabala will say that CWE has adjusted the prices. Will supermarkets change prices on a day-to-day basis after paying taxes and duties at a higher price. You cannot fool the people all the time but some people at some time only. The days of this unelected Government are numbered.

Govt did not have this interest on high price of essential items during Christmas season. Since this is an election year we will remember the responsible govt cabinet ministers and the president at the time of elections.

The country's economy cannot be managed in this idiotic way. The daily manipulation of important economic facts is fatal for the economy. The real value of the rupee against the dollar and other currencies is decreasing every day. The real inflation rate is rising. These stupid interventions in the economy are pure electoral propaganda and are intended to make the stupid part of the population (at least 6.9 million) believe that the economy is on the upswing.
