President’s fund misused by two sitting MPs, several others: Deputy Minister

Colombo, August 5 (Daily Mirror) - The President's Fund has been used to assist relatives of politicians in the past, Deputy Minister Anura Karunathilaka told Parliament today.

Accordingly, late MP Sarathchandra Rajakaruna had sought assistance for his son Harshana Rajakaruna's higher education while MP V. Radakrishnan had sought assistance for one of his relatives, the Deputy Minister said.

............ had sought assistance. Did they receive it? Nothing wrong with asking for assistance and granting it as per the rules. However, if the approvals were granted outside the rules, then the person who approved it should be held responsible (not the persons who asked for it).

Under the leadership of Rajapakses, Sirisena and Wickramasinge , public funds were allowed to use as politicians private money. It was a corrupt leading the corrupt system and the massive public anger and resentment lead the NPP to power. The public is observing with keen eyes whether you recover these finds and send perpetrators to prison.

The whole fund should be gotten rid of, or at least MPs should be banned as they have inside information even from talking to each other, on how to use the fund to feather their nests to the maximum. Ordinary people have no chance. What waste of tax payer money and public funds that MPs get to misuse the fund.
