President wants more focus on digitalization, public transport in 2026 budget

Colombo, July 16 (Daily Mirror)- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to focus more on projects centered around areas such as digitalization, strengthening public transport and integrating rural communities into the economic framework when preparing the budget for 2026.

The President made these directives during a discussion on the preliminary budget framework and development direction related to the submission of proposals for the 2026 Budget, held today at the Presidential Secretariat between President Anura Kumara Disanayake and officials of the Ministry of Finance, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.

He inquired from the Ministry of Finance officials about the current progress in preparing the upcoming budget and the officials informed the President that the circular inviting budget proposals has already been issued and that institutions have been given until the 31st of this month to submit their budget estimates within the allocated expenditure limits.

The President emphasised the importance of prioritising key sectors that can elevate the country beyond its current situation when planning the upcoming budget.

The President further noted that merely allocating financial resources for projects is not sufficient and emphasised the need to assess whether the intended benefits of such projects are truly reaching the people and highlighted the importance of strengthening the necessary mechanisms to ensure this outcome.

Previous so-called rubbish (SLPP and UNP) leaders of our nation made the budget to improve their own personal developments and not to cater the masses, but our President Hon. AKD wants to get the public opinion's from all the body and plan a digitization budget which is appreciable.

His simplicity and desire to build this land a habitable and peace full for every one is still remaining and he is doing every thing to achieve that goal. This man is talking about digitisation as to show the ignorant villagers the he is a big Tech. He doesn't have a vision for the country. Have they launched a single development project that is economically viable? Projects those are productive and income gaining, leaving aside forex earnings. He is supporting Hans to earn unreasonable profits, filthy lucre. Probably the earnings are shares as this is the last chance for Pachayas. Where is the Uganda kumari? Where is the hidden wealth of citizens robbed by Rajapakshahoru and Wickramasinghehoru?
