President urges to pay taxes, pledges legal action on tax abuse



President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today urged all citizens to fulfil their tax obligations, assuring that tax revenue will be fully protected and that legal action will be taken against anyone who misuses public funds.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘National Tax Week’ held at the Presidential Secretariat this morning (June 2), the President said he had reduced his own official expenditures wherever possible to ensure that every rupee of public money is safeguarded.

He also pledged to dismantle the black economy sustained by racketeering, vowing to establish a legal and accountable system to protect public finances.

Marking the launch of the newly introduced online tax platform, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake became the first individual to file tax returns for the 2024–2025 assessment year
