President Ranil Wickremesinghe should address the nation and reveal the government’s domestic debt restructuring plan, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa said.

“The President should address the nation and explain the government’s domestic debt restructuring plan in order to calm the people,” Mr. Premadasa said at a public gathering in Polonnaruwa today.

“People are worried about their bank deposits and are confused. Nothing should happen to the EPF and ETF. Therefore, we request the President to address the nation and explain the domestic debt restructuring programme. It is essential to avoid any destructions,” he added.

“A face value haircut, hair cut on interest will affect the EPF. The interests have to be paid in full in the event the maturity period is extended when it comes to financial instruments such as bonds,” he also said.

So it is a concern of Ranil only as Ranil plans a bright future for him referring a 5 year tenure as his first target in avoiding elections.
