Colombo, Oct. 20 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has called on the Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) to develop a comprehensive plan to address delays in university degree programmes and improve the overall functioning of higher education institutions.
Speaking at a meeting with FUTA representatives this morning (20) at the Presidential Secretariat, the President emphasized the need for a strategy that ensures timely completion of degree programmes, efficient management of accumulated workloads, and stronger research and development initiatives. He assured that the government will provide the necessary facilities to implement the plan.
FUTA representatives highlighted several challenges faced by universities, including delays in programme completion, difficulties in recruiting and retaining academic staff, and the need for measures to enhance the quality of higher education. The President urged swift action to address these issues, emphasizing that systemic reforms are essential for strengthening the university system.
