President pledges international cricket stadium to north



Colombo, April 27 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said an international cricket stadium will be constructed in the north.

Addressing an electoral rally in the north in view of the Local Government elections, he said the first match will be played soon after that, enabling the people to cheer in the pavilion irrespective of any divisions among them.

Earlier,  the 1996 World Cup winning Sri Lankan cricket team requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to assist in the construction of a cricket ground in Jaffna.
