The President has ordered to suspend transporting beef and mutton at district and provincial levels with immediate effect, the President Media Division (PMD) said.

They said the announcements was made due to the sudden death of animals in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

He also said the decision was taken to ensure public health safety.

They should because they can then know (or at least believe) they aren't going to eat the meat of the dead animals, who although some say is cold weather and other the poison air, could be diseased even.

Why o why ? If the veterinary surgeon / Public health inspectors approve the meat it should be transferable to any part of Sri Lanka. This order of suspension is a knee jerk reaction of poor knowledge of health matters. Did he seek advise from health officials? If so name them please. This is like idiotic advise received for cremation of dead bodies during covid period.Some idiot stating that the virus can penetrate the sand if buried. Thousand and thousands of covid dead bodies were buried in USA AND IN THE UK.

Sri Lankan are kings of tricks, and scams. You been in your Western country too long. Within 3 hours of the animals been found dead, the owner has to make the most of it, so may have been approached by others to butcher the animal and sell already. Maybe some of the beef is already in the shops.

Good it's done quickly otherwise the dead animals will be cut and sold. In our country one man's loss of a live cow will be another man's chance to sell the beef.

@UK health official from SL Unless you ascertain the background of the present scenario making a comment is futile. Today the whole system is corrupt. You will not know the exact position as your interests are in UK whilst you pick up some information and cry foul which will not reverse the stand taken at the top as this is good, since precaution is better than cure. Our countrymen are able to capitalize on a disaster and the public fall prey to unscrupulous rogues waiting to make a quick buck. Just to remind you when Tsunami struck the public who go affected had their valuables relieved from the very public who came to rescue them which cannot be justified. UK is quite different since there are checks and balances and anyone trying to flout the law will be dealt severely and the law is enforceable not like this Isle of Paradise. So don't live in a dream world and let no one say that you have "lost your marbles"
