Colombo, July 22 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed officials to take immediate steps to address the shortage of medicines reported in certain hospitals across the country.
The directive was issued during a discussion held this afternoon (22) at the Presidential Secretariat on streamlining the medicine supply process.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, Deputy Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, and senior officials from the Ministry of Health.
During the discussion, the procurement and distribution mechanisms of medicines were reviewed in detail.
Furthermore, the President emphasised the need to overhaul and streamline the existing system to ensure an uninterrupted supply of essential medicines to the public.
Special attention was paid to the shortcomings and inefficiencies currently affecting the medicine procurement and delivery process. President Dissanayake urged officials to develop long-term plans aimed at preventing future shortages and ensuring the continuous availability of critical medicines.
Highlighting that the Treasury has already allocated funds for hospital medicine procurement, the President stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to deliver high-quality healthcare services to the public.
